Make 100 unique combinations of materials to create an initial, create an interesting relationship with your selected initial and another typeface, and create typographic art inspired by your monogram.
Creating my initial 100 different ways was difficult but I had some interesting outcomes, like shower gel on a triscuit. A photo of my 100 initials are included to the right. Ultimately, the most visually interesting initial was one I made on watercolor paper using water and India ink to make blooms.
Next I had to create typographic art using an essay I wrote about where I see myself ending up in the graphic design industry. I decided to imitate the blooms in my K by laying water splotches on the same paper I used. In illustrator, I used the pen tool to create the general shape of the splotches. I used these splotches as a guide for my type.
The copy in this piece is an essay about where I see myself in the graphic design industry and why. To manipulate the text I used the Touch Type tool to modify the size and position of each letter. I tried to use the variations to emphasize more important words and phrases.
