A spray paint mural that emulates the lettering style of grafiti artist Jin-hyun choi.
Process
Jin-hyun choi’s style was intimidating as someone who had never spray painted before, but I loved his use of sharp points, arrows, and highlights. I sketched out the word “Noise” following different examples of his grafitti letters. I settled on a final sketch and mocked it up digitally using colors from Spray Planet.
Starting the spray painting process was extremely daunting but I set aside a day and got to work. I started with a doodle grid which was a collection of random symbols and letters placed randomly. Using a printed picture of the grid and my digital sketch on top, I was able to lay out where my design would go. The thin lines took me a while to get the hang of, but I was really pleased with the results of the mural. It took me about 4.5 hours to complete.
