About

While working at Colorado Mesa University’s marketing office I had the opportunity to work on some interesting campaigns and events for different campus institutions. The main clients were the school’s bookstore, various sports teams, and the school’s Career Services department.

For most campaigns, I would communicate with a client to understand the identity they wanted for their event or sale. First, one piece of media would be completed, for example, a poster or screen bulletin. If the client approved, this design would be adapted to many different formats; from printed flyers, posters, and signage, to digital displays and different social media formats.

Bookstore

The Colorado Mesa University bookstore was one of my main clients and sold a wide variety of items.

Back to School
This campaign was for the school’s back to school promotion. I presented three separate visual concepts for them to choose from. The theme they selected emphasized sunny, warm, happy and casual laidback time outdoors. I then sketched out a layout. I was in charge of the photo shoot for this project, so I was able to get the shots I wanted.

The color palette was a tangerine orange with light yellow, blue and the school’s maroon color. The typeface I selected was Gelica, which is one I used for several bookstore campaigns because of its soft, playful yet classy look.

Mascot

I had many opportunities to work on projects that focused on the school’s mascot, a bull named Rowdy.

This set of stickers and pins that I illustrated was sold at the bookstore and were very popular. I created three different poses (Mavs Up, Relaxed, and Yoga) and color combinations.

The bookstore partnered with a company that created two custom mascot ornaments for the school. The bookstore reached out to me requesting a box design for the “Celebration Rowdy” and “Rumble Rowdy.” They requested a classy design with gold accents. Each features a photo, one has a classic photo of campus and one has a photo of the crowd and pep band at a football game.

Assorted Sales
The bookstore often had sales that they wanted promotional materials for. These are some of my favorites that I think are simple, eye-catching, and effective.

Athletics

Maverick Stampede

The school’s club rodeo team is well-loved in the area and their yearly rodeo event, the Maverick Stampede, is a staple in the community. I was excited to design the promotional materials for it and see them around Grand Junction and even in the nearby town, Fruita. I wanted to emulate an old western comic with the lineart and the texture and colors.

Poster

Rodeo Gala

The rodeo team held their first gala event for fundraising and requested promotional materials. I created lettering with the typeface Council and a hand drawn golden lasso that spelled the word Gala.

Grand Depart

Similar to the rodeo team, the cycling team has a yearly gala event for fundraising. Unlike the rodeo team, the department had previously designed promotional materials for the event. I reinterpreted the identity while using the original logo. The gala was a “25 years of Cycling” celebration so I created a badge as well.
