Colorado National Monument (COLM) prioritizes projects that center building resiliency and wellness—both within the park staff and within the nearby community. I was hired to visually communicate their messaging and unify their existing mental health and wellness projects.
An identity to unite Colorado National Monument’s mental health and wellness content.
After familiarizing myself with the park culture and their mental health initiatives, I began the branding process with the input of the interpretation staff. After thumbnailing, creating the vector logo, and multiple edits, we landed on a final logo. The final product depicts two pinyon jays flying in front of the recognizable Independence Monument. The two birds flying together imply that those who are struggling with mental health issues can find community.
I chose the typeface Nunito, a clean sans serif that pairs well with the NPS identity. The color palette includes teals and greens to give readers a calm, healthy feeling rather than other medical or wellness content which is often blue and comes off overly-clinical and cold. The identity was applied to the documents I developed. These documents were intended to communicate with both the internal park teams and the external community.
Colorado National Monument requested I create a webpage that compiled their materials, which you can view below.

A six page suicide prevention guide with accompanying posters.

This project required extensive writing, editing, and organizing the previously written content to make sure the guide was effective and communicated clearly. I presented three visual identity options to the park’s superintendent and head of interpretation (this was prior to the completion of the COLM Wellness identity). They preferred certain elements of each, so the identity was developed based on our discussion of the ideal combination of the elements.
