IBC Redesign

Beverage Packaging

Brief

The goal for this project was to rebrand a four pack of IBC root beer.  At this point I started the brainstorming process with researching and a form storm. There was no data available on the demographics or sales of IBC root beer, and there was only vague statistics on root beer in general. However, from the limited data, I came to the conclusion that root beer is enjoyed by all age groups, but I decided to focus on kids and adults who are nostalgic for their youth.

Redesign

Process

To begin with, I deconstructed the original package and measured its dimensions with a ruler. Then it was recreated in illustrator using a mechanical with lines that marked where to cut, perforate, fold, or trim; along with a key explaining each of these. The mechanical used Lustre 260 paper and followed the guides, referring to the original as needed. My first attempt was decent, but there were some measurement issues that I had to fix.

The illustration uses a flat style and bright, yet vintage colors created in Illustrator. I printed and remade the box (slightly better this time) to bring to critique. My peers pointed out some issues in my critique that I applied and then repeated the process for my final designed box.  I also designed labels for the bottle using adhesive paper, Lustre 260 paper, and an X-acto knife.
