Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) opened the Climate of Change / Clima de Cambio Natural Sciences Hall in the Spring of 2026. The hall focuses on messages of hope and action while engaging and educating visitors with hands-on exhibit experiences.
Science on a Sphere
Science On a Sphere is a spherical projection system created by the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. It projects video onto a suspended globe to represent global phenomena like atmospheric storms, climate change, and ocean temperature.
OMSI needed informational slides for their new and improved Science on a Sphere experience in the Natural Science Hall. The design team and I collaborated to figure out the best layout to provide viewers with information about what is playing on the sphere. We wanted to include design elements that tied into the rest of the hall without detracting from the copy or the graphics on the sphere itself. I created many different template sets with a variety of graphics and colors so that OMSI has many options to choose from in the future for pairing with new datasets.

User Interface Design
The Natural Sciences Hall has a number of unique and engaging interactive kiosks with games and activities for learning about climate change. I worked on the Climate Action Venn Diagram and Powered by Nature Activities. Both kiosks are physical structures with screens that users interact with either directly or using the physical game pieces. I designed the user interface for the monitors and passed it off to the UX back-end developers to complete the programming.
Powered by Nature
This screen provides instructions and information for users to learn about each of the energy sources. Users can swipe through each informational slide and then put corresponding game pieces on the board to solve the puzzle.

Climate Change Venn Diagram
This activity serves as a call to action at the end of a visitor’s experience in the hall. It prompts users to put puzzle pieces down. The screen display shows that they have put down pieces. Once all the pieces have been placed it shows the result of their intersecting choices.
